Small Ebonized Oak Bowl-0068
Species: Oak (Spalted)
Size: Roughly 8" x 2.5"
This special vintage bowl is a once turned bowl, blessed with the natural spalting that occurs in some species. Iron staining, or ebonizing, generally uses a reaction between iron oxide and the natural tannins in wood to create a natural-looking black that is actually created in the fibers of the wood rather than a stain sitting on top. As a once turned bowl dries it warps slightly and presents a slight oval, deformed shape. This small vintage oak bowl is great for single salad serving or a small bowl of oatmeal.
This bowl is finished with Hampton Bowl Company Wood Butter, a all natural, 100% organic finish that will keep the bowl fresh for generations.
